It was all a dream…
Hello and welcome to my site! Thank you for taking the time to find more out about me!
Being born in Harrogate and raised in nearby Ripon, also known as the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales. Naturally a deep routed love for Nature & Wildlife was instilled into me from an early age!
A small and quiet Yorkshire city (definitely more of a town), this would prove to be a double edged sword when coming fresh out of school and into the experimental phase of life with a lack of options career wise. This was until a chance meeting with a kingfisher provided the spark I needed!
Inspired by the fact that I would keep having amazing encounters such as this but having no way of sharing or expressing the moment as vividly through words. Events eventually conspired in my favour, I managed to acquire a camera and two lenses for a huge bargain price. I set out into the wilderness and the rest is history as they say! Along the way, I have managed to get a follow on Instagram from BBC Wildlife Magazine with a picture of the kingfisher that started it all. This was further fuel to the fire!
Little did I know that I would end up travelling to the other side of the world to pursue this passion, landing in Peru and achieving a boyhood dream of not only seeing the amazon rainforest - I was living the dream for a year as a conservation photographer and teacher! Doing what I love day in and day out! From there, I have had my work shown on a national live stream to the whole of Peru via TvPeru during international lockdown in 2020 with over 6 million viewers! (See here - https://imgur.com/a/XiRDMK0 )
Coming up to 8 years of experience in these fields, with 2 years experience specifically working within tropical humid rainforests in Peru and Ecuador. Interested in all aspects of wildlife, specialising mainly in birds and mammals, a favourite project being leading expeditions to work with the Harpy Eagle!
I also am experienced in dealing with herpetofauna, currently contributing photos and scientific entries to a reptile guide for the Manu Learning Centre reserve. Whilst contributing to numerous eco-notes published in scientific journals. (See the latest here - https://journals.ku.edu/reptilesandamphibians/article/view/18987 )
I am experienced in camera trapping using trail cameras and a self-built DSLR camera trap along with contributing to other research and multimedia projects, leading groups within tropical environments.
I appreciate you taking the time to learn more about me and hope you can follow my journey!
Many thanks
Daniel
